Q: What is the point of this website? Click for Answer
A: My Chichester Harbour has been created to celebrate 40 years of Chichester Harbour Conservancy. Over this time the Conservancy have done much to conserve, maintain and improve the harbour and Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty for recreation, nature conservation and natural beauty.
We wanted to link our stories with yours. Through the contributed stories and memories we hope to develop a picture of what makes Chichester Harbour special to individuals. The stories may also give us useful anecdotal evidence on climate change. We hope that many hundreds of people will enjoy browsing through the stories and also contributing to the project.

Q: What kind of stories and memories do you want? Click for Answer
A: If you have ever visited Chichester Harbour then you have a story to tell! If you need inspiration then think about:
What special events in your life do you link with Chichester Harbour?
When was the first time you came to the harbour?
How has the harbour changed during your lifetime?
Have you or do you work here? What is the history of your business? Or do you know of a business that used to be here?
Have you any experiences linked to extreme weather conditions in the harbour, perhaps the great freeze in 1963 or the storm of 1987?
Do you think climate change has had an impact on the harbour? Have you any evidence?
Have you a story related to sailing, walking, visiting harbour villages, viewing harbour wildlife?
How would you like to see the harbour change in the coming years?
Or simply tell us your favourite spot in the harbour and why it is special to you, even better send us a photo or short video clip.

Q. My item and story is about someone else. Do you also need their permission to publish it? Click for Answer
A. We can only publish things which belong to you and where you have copyright. For example your item might be a photo of something which belonged to your grandparents with its story which they told to you. Obviously we can’t publish anything which is illegal, unreasonable or inappropriate, such as gossip which shows someone living (or indeed recently dead) in a negative light.

Q: I have some old photos and don’t know how to get them online. Click for Answer
A: The easiest way may be to re-photograph them with a digital camera and then upload that image. Alternatively if you have a scanner, scan and then upload the photo. If it is easier for you, then please arrange to send or bring your photos to the Harbour Office where we can scan them. If you post anything in please send by recorded delivery. If you are coming in person please contact Ali Beckett first to make sure someone is here who can scan the photo for you. Tel: 01243 512301 or email: allie@conservancy.co.uk. You can also bring your photos along to one of the public sessions we will be holding.
